Funkynilo is bringing to Wrocław a one-man live looping show that combines blues and funk with electronic music. With improvised instrumentals ranging from hip-hop to hard techno and everything in between, he creates a constant trance-like connection between the artist and the listeners.

Nilo, also known as Funkynilo, was born and raised in Madrid, Spain. He began learning the piano at the age of 9. After 8 years of learning classical music at the music conservatory, he decided to change direction and started to learn blues and funk, his favourite music style.

At 19, Nilo moved alone to Berlin to pursue his dream of being a musician. Influenced by the city’s underground techno scene, he started combining his classical piano skills and his blues and funky groove with electronic music.

Nilo has been busking for three years, and a hat has been his main salary for over a year. He is also a part of the Zen Studios collective

He’s also the host of a breakfast show on Instagram Live called ‘Hymns for Porridge’. His songs follow an indie folk/blues style that combines rhythm guitar, harmonica, vocals, beatboxing, whistling and mouth trumpet.

When performing live, he intertwines his songs with storytelling to paint an ever-changing picture of Western society and the complex human condition. To find a balance between life’s bitter-sweet moments, he writes joyful songs about the world’s problems.

By fusing drama together with humour, he hopes to make controversial subjects easier to discuss and work out in society. His main focus is on the music’s impact and the song’s ability to change the world for the better.

Musically, he combines danceable live looped drum beats, with happy guitar lines mostly in major scales.

His musical journey started in the small mountain town of Vratza in Bulgaria. He is a music graduate with a degree in sound engineering and percussion. He moved to Berlin six years ago and has been a full-time busker ever since.

Dean travels, writes songs, records, and performs his music as an independent artist, pursuing his teenage dream of living like a rock star. He has released over 20 albums with original music, in both English and Bulgarian. With every new song, Dean showcases his versatility as an artist transitioning between music genres and playing multiple instruments.

DEANisHOME returns to Poland after releasing “Spanish Omelette” in March 2024. One of the versions of his song “Regrets” from this album was reinvented during his concerts on the streets of Krotoszyn, Wrocław and Zielona Góra at Busker Tour 2023.

Robert Lee Fardoe
Robert Lee Fardoe

Robert Lee Fardoe | Wales | Music: Rock / Reggae / Folk

Town: 6-7.07 Wrocław, Busker Tour 2024: Dźwięki Ulicy

His mother heard him singing in the shower at 11 years old and said his voice “wasn’t bad”. That’s a compliment from a parent. Funny though, as it’s his father’s side that has the musical talent, including his paternal grandmother who sang Opera. That’s the Welsh version of Opera – singing to the sheep in the fields. So you can blame his family for his vibrato and the need to sing in the rain… He moved from London, where he studied Music, to Berlin where he has been ever since, much to the chagrin of the Ordnungsamt.

Robert is passionate about social and political issues, and tries to incorporate this into his songwriting, with a slice of irony, and a drop of humour, wherever appropriate. Or even inappropriate. One has to rock the boat, as long as it rolls to the coast.

This contrasts with the precisely choreographed juggling sequences and satisfying repetition when the balls suddenly reform the familiar pyramid shape.

The timing and spectrum of the performance vary depending on the street space conditions. One can perceive elements of gags, comedy, and the grotesque, but above all, it’s a peculiar, ghostly theatre of the duo, resonating with the author’s poetic texts.
